Russia’s Su-57 fighter jet crashes
- December 24, 2019
Russia’s newest Su-57 stealth fighter jet has crashed during tests on Tuesday.
Its civilian pilot catapulted and survived the crash in the Khabarovsk region.
According to TASS news agency, the Defence Ministry will set up a commission to investigate the accident, which looked like it was caused by a failure in the steering system.
The Su-57, Russia’s most advanced fighter plane, has made its maiden flight in 2010. It has stealth capability and carries sophisticated equipment and weapons. The twin-engine aircraft has been designed by the Sukhoi company to compete with the US F-22 Raptor stealth fighter.
The Russian air force has placed an order for 76 such aircraft to be delivered by 2028.
